.......very proud daughter......
.......equally proud son..............
Yes, we are very proud of her....
like most mature age students she managed to juggle running a home, having children at school and working for the first two years at Uni.
....................eyes closed (luckily I focused the camera first), pick one,
and the winner is...........
It's absolutely freezing up here today, the wind has howled, the rain has blown in sideways, it's been grey, cold and windy all day and then........................the sun broke through the heavy cloud for about 5 minutes and this is what I saw.
Diamonds on the tree!
Sometimes you just have to wonder at the beauty of the little things!
If you look at the bottom of the book you can see that I have put a bookmark in for her, I made it from some white twill tape stitched to the back of the cover. Then I stitched the other end onto a metal 'giggle' charm left over from scrapbooking days, stitched a fabric daisy on and slipped a little note from me to her in the pocket and it's done. Now I just have to go out and find the other stuff!!
This notebook I made for my very dear friend Jenny, who from her self description is a 'baby catcher', (midwife) anyway, at 6am on Sunday morning she will be on board a plane bound for Papua New Guinea. She is going to do volunteer work in a small remote hospital 'catching babies' for three weeks. My admiration for her knows no bounds, she is a wonderful, charming, loving, generous, warm and very loved person (even though she doesn't sew AT all). The women of Papua New Guinea are very, very lucky to have her. Take care my special friend.
Oh yes, it's so she can jot notes about her wonderful adventure!!
I appliqued her name above the pocket on the front.............
......I wanted to make it especially hers, she has an older sister and a younger sister and brother, so it's important that things belong..............
Can you see the 'oops' - I forgot to stitch around the centre of the 'e', lucky I found it before I got too far!!!!
.....a bit out of sequence here, but this is the inside pockets and the pocket for the front cover...
You will have to carry on to the post below, I don't know what happened, but I couldn't put all the photos on the one post............who knows.....some sort of computer overlord I expect!!
I feel very lucky and privileged to be the custodian of this piece of someone else and unlike Sherri I don't know the story of my quilt, I wish I did.
Oh the joy of soups and open fires, toasting toes in front of flames, curling under winter blankets, watching to see if it's going to snow!!
Ok, that's enough of that, what month is Summer again???
.....now all I have to decide is what colour will I use, decisions, decisions!!
And of course be patient, can't start her until May 11th.
So after all that I have to make another one now, I think it will be just right for a part of my gift for Mum for Mothers Day, and then one for us would be nice.
Good Luck everyone.
What a perfect way to start a lazy Sunday. I hope your day is coloured as beautifully as mine is today.
For those non aussies, the meter maids on the Gold Coast in Queensland, wander around putting money in the parking meters. The local council funds them with 'donations' for photo's with the 'maids'. It used to be a gold coin donation, but my daughter tell us it's now a $5 'donation'. Still, judging by the grin on his face, well worth the $5. They just grow up so quickly!!
Aren't the colours just fabulous, I'm just going to feast my eyes on them until I finish some things and then....well, who knows?
......................I'm really enjoying this and have had so much fun working out what to giveaway, I can see that I will be doing this again.
I also cut out the fabric I bought for Sam's quilt into 5.5 inch squares, I've stitched them into rows of 7, that gave me 9 rows. No photo yet, but I am going to applique large white daisy shapes randomly across the quilt top. That's as far as I have planned yet. As she is only 11 at the moment, I want her to be able to use it through her teen years, it needs to be a little 'funky', so, that's what I'm working on.......being Funky!!
Wish me luck with that one.......
